Carey was 5'10 in height when she became a high-end model. She was a popular model with American fashion designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. She is the daughter of a distinguished geologist, who was in 1979 named Scientist of the Year in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey traveled all over in honor of her father's efforts. As she was attending the University of Colorado, Carey began modeling on the side. A representative of Ford's model agency located in New York noticed her and offered to help. She stayed in France for a short time, including Paris as well as Bordeaux. She then returned in New York for her college studies and to further develop her career as a model. She studied full-time in New York University, obtaining her degree in literature in between assignments as a model. She became more interested in acting, and began training in the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. In 1986 she made her first appearance on stage with a small role on the show "Club Paradise" alongside Robin Williams. In her spare time, she enjoys doing white-water rafting, skiing, wind-surfing and climbing rocks.
